Business VoIP phone services provider FeatureTel funds seven DonorsChoose.org projects
APEX, N.C. (March 30, 2011) – Business VoIP phone services provider FeatureTel has funded seven different DonorsChoose.org projects in as many months as part of its corporate giving program.
Impacting more than 535 students in the Triangle area, the projects supported by FeatureTel provide learning opportunities to students who otherwise might not have access to these educational resources. Additionally, FeatureTel’s participation in DonorsChoose.org has resulted in the recruitment of three additional donors to the organization.
“DonorsChoose lets donors support specific school classroom projects of their choosing,” explained FeatureTel Founder & CEO Paul Levering. “At FeatureTel, we took that one step further and built our philanthropy program around it. We foster employee engagement by inviting one employee each month to select a project to be funded. It’s a total win for everyone involved and fosters and supports our culture of giving back.
“We know when it comes to serving our customers, the small things we do can have a big impact,” he added. “That’s very similar to DonorsChoose’s approach -- funding one project at a time can make a big difference to a classroom of kids and their learning potential.”
Projects supported by FeatureTel range from those focused on math skills development to reading and technology, and include:
Reaching Adolescent Male Non-Readers and Slow Readers, Lufkin Road Middle School, Apex, N.C. -- funding the purchase of eReaders for students with reading disabilities so they can listen and read, increasing reading stamina, imagination and fluency, as well as participation in literature discussions with fellow students.
Moving Math Mathematicians, Adams Elementary School, Cary, N.C. -- funded games and center activities to help students learn simple math concepts like multiplication.
Supporting Kindergarten Literacy is as Easy as ABC -- funded the purchase of Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs so students in this North Carolina school can explore and learn letters and their sounds.
We’ve Got Energy! Southeast Raleigh High School, Raleigh, N.C. -- funded a project to help non-verbal student with Autism practice functional and physical skills with an assortment of balls to play with during physical education and leisure time.
Catch Us Up! Middle Creek Elementary School, Apex, N.C. -- funded the purchase of a projector to help magnify and expand what students can accomplish with technology. Prior to the purchase, teachers were sharing a projector and taking turns with its use.
Chapter Books for a New Chapter in Reading -- funded the purchase of five copies of 10 different books for Literature Circles on three different levels, appealing to boys and girls at all levels in this North Carolina school.
Laptop for my desktop, Millbrook Elementary School, Raleigh, N.C. -- funded the purchase of a laptop computer to expand students’ minds and open doors to the world around them, enhancing research, typing, reading and analysis skills, among others.
DonorsChoose.org allows public school teachers from across America to post their project funding requests on the site. Donors search for projects to fund by specific state, city, county, district and school. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class and more.

About DonorsChoose.org
DonorsChoose.org grew out of a Bronx high school where teachers experienced first-hand the scarcity of learning materials in public schools. Charles Best, then a social studies teacher, sensed that many people would like to help distressed public schools, but were frustrated by a lack of influence over their donations. He created DonorsChoose.org in 2000 so individuals could connect directly with classrooms in need.
